How You Can Help

You can help Read Across Jamaica in many ways: donating funds, donating books, volunteering at a local event in your community, helping us pack books to be shipped to Jamaica, assisting us with a fundraiser, or even joining us as a literacy ambassador on a Vacation for a Cause to Jamaica. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Donate funds

Read Across Jamaica accepts online and mailed donations. Please see our Donate page for more information.

Donate books

Read Across Jamaica accepts:

  • Popular fiction and nonfiction reading books (soft and hard cover), chapter books, and storybooks suitable for students in pre-K to grade 9.
  • Books that are new or gently used (ten years or newer).
  • Reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries published in 2011 or later.
  • Some Bibles or religious books. Please place them in a box separate from other donations and mark the box as “religious texts.” Bibles and religious books are sent only when requested by recipients.

If you mail books, please do not send boxes that weigh more than 50 pounds, and do not include any non-recyclable packing materials such as plastic bubble wrap or peanuts. Read Across Jamaica cannot allocate funds for the mailing or shipping of book donations. This helps us keep our operating costs lower so that we can ship more and more books to students who need them.

Volunteer

Our volunteers are the reason we can do what we do! We are seeking volunteers with a variety of skill sets, backgrounds, and areas of interest, including tutoring, mentoring, technical expertise, administration, advocacy, writing, public relations, event planning, and much more!

Learn more about volunteer opportunities, and use our volunteer form to let us know how you would like to help.

Other needs

Please see Other Needs for a list of other non-monetary donations that would help Read Across Jamaica.

Sponsorship opportunities

In order for the Read Across Jamaica Literacy Project to continue its effort of sharing the gift of literacy with children of Jamaica, we need support from our local communities and businesses that realize the return on our investment is guided by our current concern for children. Your support guides the future.
